The anti-structure: rebelling against my own advice

This working week has been so structured that I’m rebelling against it and writing these weeknotes without a structure. Without a structure means as a stream of consciousness. I don’t usually do this. Usually I recommend having a structure. So its an experiment….

New homepage design for Shared Digital Guides.

When it seems like not much happened its because you can’t remember all the things that did

Not a lot happened on Monday, at least not that I can remember. Probably a lot happened but I forgot it in all the things that happened since. I wish I could remember more. It is a bit frustrating. Monday never seems to get much of a look in on my week notes.

I did publish an article on supporting neurodivergent staff members in your organisation. It was good to write less about tech and more about people.

Six words to rule them all

On Tuesday I ran a workshop on finding a descriptor for Grapevine. Grapevine are a great organisation I work with from Coventry. We wanted to describe what Grapevine is, not what it does. So I ran a 6 word story workshop. The most popular descriptor was ‘the seed of hope, the road to change’. Yeah, 8 words but that’s ok. It’s a start, but there’s more work to do.

Finding enthusiasm for a new name

In the afternoon I attended Catalyst Initiative Lead circle meeting. There I also announced Shared Digital Guides as the new name for Service Recipes. I did it twice after Aaron invited me to be more enthusiastic about the new name. Its a good name — clear and informative, if dull.

Other things that happened this week:

  • Looked at the new Shared Digital Guides homepage design
  • Talked to Lauren Pope about doing more work for Catalyst Resources — be good to have some help and creative ideas
  • Working from my partner’s car while my daughter was having a riding lesson (standard stuff for anyone who works from home with kids)
  • Running my 7th ‘How to write about your work’ workshop — this one for 16 people. It went well, great feedback as before, but felt a little large and less intimate than the 10 people ones I’ve run before.
  • Scoping the next Shared Digital Guides sprint — basically implementing a refined and improved visual design, going live in early April

This stream of consciousness has been less streamy and random than I expected. See you next week for a more templatey weeknote I expect.
